The Havana is a very classic dress. Timeless and comfortable, it is a great adaptable piece.
This bias cut shape will flow over your curves without hugging, clinging or twisting. This dress works equally well with print or plain fabrics. Dress it up by accessorising with a belt or jewellery and you a turn a work dress into a party piece.
This pattern is a very easy style that you can make again and again.

  • Fabric Suggestions

    You can make this dress in plenty of fabrics but whichever fabric you choose, it should have some drape. Suitable fabrics are: Satin, Georgette, Crepe, Polyester, Viscose, Silk or Linen. Do not use Cotton. It’s important that the lining you use drapes the same way as your outer fabric.

    ​Adaptations

    This dress is sleeveless but why not add a frill to the armhole and give it a bit of frou-frou. If you decide to add a full sleeve then we recommend you don’t bag out the armhole, just sew all layers together and insert the sleeve on the round. You could flute the dress hem too if you wanted. Otherwise, it’s just perfect as it is.

    Skill Level

    This dress is aimed at an intermediate sewer. There’s nothing too tricky here though if you’ve made a garment or two before and your confidence is building. No zips, no interfacing, no gathering, no hand sewing. The only tricky bit is bagging out the armholes. It’s so easy once you know how but a new sewer might not understand the steps for turning the dress the right way to sew the second armhole. Not stretching the seams is crucial to this dress and understitching the neck and armholes before sewing together is a must.
